Galway city shops, cafes and takeaways that are open, at 28-March-2020

Many shops, cafes and restaurants in Galway City are closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But some are still open, usually with more limited conditions or hours than usual.

Below is a list of city-centre businesses that were open on Saturday 28-March-2020.    It's based on what I saw during a daily walk within a 2km radius of my home.
  • Almost every place that is open has a limit on how many people can be inside at once.  For some, it's only one customer, others wait outside.
  • Some shops say card-payments preferred.   Others are only accepting tapped card (or other device) payments.
  • Most are opening for limited hours only.

About this list

This is not published to encourage people to go out - especially not people who have been advised to stay home.   But there are many people in Galway who are working in essential industries - some working extended hours due to the pandemic.  They still need to shop and eat and top up their Leap cards .   This list is to provide them with information about what is available.

Stay safe, and be polite

Always maintain social distancing, as per HSE guidelines.   Do not leave your home if you are told not to.

Also, please respect the staff who are working in shops and food-service outlets, and public transport services.   Follow guidelines to keep them, and you, as safe as possible.
